Lesson Plan for 251:

 

1. Objectives:

1.      By the end of the lesson, 80% of the students will perform  a single leg flank dismount and a drop back flank cut dismount from the uneven bars

     

        2. By the end of the lesson, the students will demonstrate spotting methods for each of the above uneven bar dismounts.

      

2.      By the end of the lesson, the students will practice the following beginning skills on the balance beam:
A. Walks                                       
B. Chasse                                     
C. Waltz
D. Step Hops

 

       3. By the end of the lesson, 100% of the students will perform the balance beam mounts and dismounts shown on the wall charts

 

       4.  By the end of the lesson, 100% of the students will perform the balance skills listed on the appropriate charts.

TIntroduction:

 Passes over the bar

Assume a stride position on the bar; one hand in reverse grip. (If right leg is in front, right hand is in reverse grip. Lift left leg sideward over the bar, supporting weight with the right hand. As

 

 

Skill Description:

 

From front support on bar with hands in forward grip, cast, flex hips and place feet on bar just outside the hands. As hips begin to circle backward, push with the feet, and pull with the arms, to lock the feet onto the bar. As the hips rise on the ascent portion of the skill, feet are released and the gymnast will come to  a stand position.

 

Progressions:

            1. Push and pull with broom stick
            2. Swing under bar in straddle position

            3. Stand on bar, swing down with support.

            4. Jump from folded mats

            5. Cast to place feet

 

Spotting:

            For 3. above: Place hands on thighs of performer as he grasps the bar. Support the weight to slow down the momentum so he can feel the full extent of the swing.

            For 4 and 5 above: Stand on far side of bar. Place one hand under the back of the performer and the other on the thighs during the bar release part of the skill.

1. Sole circle on Uneven Bar set #1.

3. Vault skills: See objective #5
