Grading: We will have 2 tests on Thursday, Feb. 7 and Thursday,
March 20 and a final exam on Tuesday, April 22 . In addition 4 quizzes
will be given as indicated on the course schedule.
If you miss a class and are not sure which sections will be covered
on a quiz or test, you will be able to find this information in
Assignments, Quizzes and Tests .
In addition I will collect homework throughout the semester. I will
always tell you in advance when homework is to be collected. The point
distribution for tests, quizzes, and the final will be:
-
2 Tests @100 ----- 200 points
-
Best 3 out of 4 quizzes ----- 30 points
-
Homework ------100 points
-
Final Exam ------100 or 200 points
(If your grade on the final exam is better than your average going into the
final then I will count your final 200 points. Otherwise you final
will be counted as 100 points. In other words, I will count your final
double if it helps your grade.)
-
Prerequisites: The prerequisites for Math 416 are Math 122
and Math 211 .
-
Course Description: Math 416 is a second course in Linear Algebra.
The emphasis is on vector spaces and linear transformations between
vector spaces.
-
Other things to note:
-
A graphing calculator is optional for Math 416. The Department strongly
recommends the TI-83.
-
Since I hand out solutions to quizzes and homework shortly after they are
handed in, I do not like to accept late quizzes or homework. If you
miss a quiz or a homework assignment for a valid reason please talk to me
and I will arrange to count some later quiz or assignment double.
Tests may be made up if you have a valid reason for missing the test
and you talk to me in advance.
-
Tutoring is available in the Mathematics Student Services Center located
on the second floor of Pray-Harrold. Their hours are:
-
Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
-
Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
