Government Information at the Bruce T. Halle Library

Location and Accessibility

Most of the Government Information Collection is shelved in the northwest section of the 2nd floor of the Bruce T. Halle Library. It is arranged on the shelves according to the Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) classification system. Some of the documents are only available in microforms such as fiche or film. These are located in the western part of the 2nd floor where they can be read or copied on microform reader/printers. Federal publications are increasingly published only in electronic formats such as on CD-ROM or on the Internet.
Selected CD-ROMs are located in the cabinet by the CD-ROM workstation on the 1st floor of the Information Commons area of the Library. Others are found on the 2nd floor shelves with the rest of the government collection.
Most government agencies have their own websites, and many of the print, microfiche and CD-ROM titles are also published on the Web. See the Agency Index for comprehensive lists and links to publications.
The collection is designated by the Federal Government as a selective depository, which means that we currently receive about 50% of all federal publications. Two Michigan regional depository libraries receive almost all government publications. They are the Detroit Public Library and the Library of Michigan in Lansing.

Our online catalog, Web Voyager, lists the government documents available in our library as well as links to websites on which they may be located.
Access to the Government Information collection is available during all open hours of the Bruce T. Halle Library. However reference hours are limited to those listed under Reference below.
