Using the table on a TI-86

  1. Enter a function as before, whose values you would like to see (start by pressing the 'GRAPH' button!)
  2. Now press the 'TABLE' button, which is in the second column from the left, third button down.
  3. Find the word 'TBLSET' at the bottom of the screen, then press the button below it (which should be F2 button.)
  4. Enter a value in TBLSTART; this will give you the first x-value in the table. (Let's put in a 5).
  5. Use the down arrow to move you down to the next line. Notice that it has a funny triangle symbol in it. That triangle is a delta, which in math stands for difference. For us, here, it means how much you want each x-value to differ from the next one. (So that entering a 10 here will make the second value 15, the next value 25, etc.)
  6. Make sure that the item marked 'AUTO' is chosen in the bottom row.
  7. Now find the word 'TABLE' at the bottom of the screen, and press the button below it (this should be the F1 button.)
